Puerto Rico has been a
colony of the United States since 1898, as a
result of the Spanish-American War. As part of that War, the
United States Armed Forces invaded Puerto Rico on July 25,
1898. Puerto Ricans are still struggling to attain
sovereignty and independence.
The Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) was founded in 1946 with the
purpose of seeking and obtaining independence by every pacific mean
available. The PIP is committed to achieving Puerto Rico's national
freedom and laying the foundation for a sound, responsible transition
from our present day colonial government to full-flegged independence.
This is the English
version of our web site. You will find
brief
explanations of how we visualize, plan and expect an
independent Puerto Rico to be. You will also find
articles and news related
to the PIP or to our struggle to achieve independence.
We hope that by launching this English version of
independencia.net it becomes a powerful tool to reach out to
the international community and promote solidarity with our demand for
freedom and justice.
We update our web-site
frequently. You are welcome to visit any time and get the latest news
about the PIP. We appreciate the time you take to search our site. That
is why we encourage you to write us with your comments, criticism,
thoughts, questions and suggestions. You may reach us by e-mail at:
