El alto liderato del Partido
Independentista
Puertorriqueño (PIP), encabezado por su presidente, el
Lic. Rubén Berríos Martínez, recibió hoy en el
Aeropuerto Internacional de Isla Verde al Ex Presidente
de Euskadi, Lehendakari Juan José Ibarretxe. El político
vasco arribó en un vuelo de American Airlines procedente
de la República Dominicana en donde se encontraba
recibiendo un Doctorado Honoris Causa.
Ibarretxe fue hasta hace muy poco el Presidente de
Euskadi, puesto que ostentó por más de una década. Esta
es la segunda ocasión en la que el Lehendakari toca
suelo puertorriqueño. Su primera visita fue el año 2006
y en aquella ocasión también se reunió con el liderato
del PIP.
Se informó que durante su estancia en la Isla
Ibarretxe hará la presentación del libro del
Dr. Francisco Caballero Harriet, Algunas claves para
otra mundialización, en la Facultad de Derecho de la
Universidad Interamericana. El Partido Independentista
Puertorriqueño llevará cabo una recepción con el
Lehendakari, Juan José Ibarretxe, mañana jueves, a las
7:00 p.m. en el Ateneo Puertorriqueño.

Berríos Martínez, recived on Wednesday former Basque
President Juan José Ibarretxe, the second time the
Spanish politician has visited the island for
conversations on self-determination.
Ibarretxe traveled from the Dominican Republic where
he was given a Honoris Causa doctorate at Santo Domingo
Autonomous University.
He visited Puerto Rico on 2006 and has maintained a
close relationship with the PIP leadership. Both the
Basque region and the PIP’s Puerto Rico seek sovereign
political powers.
Berríos said Ibarretxe came to the island for talks
for shared interests concerning self determination. He
will also present in San Juan, the book titled “Key
Issues for New Globalization”, by Basque intellectual,
Dr. Francisco Caballero Harriet.
“We consider Juan José Ibarretxe a worthy
representative of independence. He is a friend of any
country that fights for it independence”, said Berríos
during an arrival ceremony at Luis Munoz Marín Airport,
in Carolina.
The Basque Country (Euskadi) is a Spanish autonomous
community located in the northeastern end of then
Cantabrian strip.
The Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) is a political
party founded in Spain at the end of the XIX century and
has been present in the Basque government, showing its
uninterrupted presidency from 1980 to May of this year.
Ibarretxe has served leader for three legislatures,
continuously heading government coalitions.
Ibarretxe openly displayed a sovereign program
overcoming constitutional and statutory marks favorable
to self- determination in his campaign, following
through with a proposed reform of the autonomous statue
of the country.
The plan based itself on free association between the
Basque Country and Spain, shared sovereignty and the
right to self-determination.
The PNV promotes the recognition of the Euskadi as a
nation independent of Spain, which the central
government in Spain refuses, Berríos explained. |
